Walk a route from written directions
When to use this goal
For older students learning to travel within a large school, campus, or neighborhood who rely on staff to lead them. Directions can be written, pictured, or on a phone map. Present levels and safety skills, not grade, decide the route.
- Baseline
- Write six-step directions to a new location in the building and follow a short distance behind, recording each turn made correctly without help.
- Tips
- Staff stay close enough to step in at street crossings; safety skills are taught separately and come first. Count each turn or landmark as one opportunity.
- Limits
- This goal never replaces a travel safety plan. Familiar routes do not test the skill; use new ones.
