Save a comment for share time
When to use this goal
For primary students who have ideas they cannot hold during lessons and share them out of turn. Present levels decide fit. The save-it card is the replacement for the comments counted in ef-ic-007: the student draws or marks the idea and shares it at a set time.
- Baseline
- Count ideas shared out of turn for a week; those are the opportunities. Teach the card in practice first. Write an operational definition first (what counts as the impulsive response and what counts as using the strategy), and teach and practice the strategy before measuring it.
- Tips
- Always hold share time, even briefly; saved ideas that are never heard stop the strategy working. Score each idea as met when saved rather than said.
- Limits
- Counts depend on noticing ideas the student saved; check the pocket at share time.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, during whole-group lessons, when they have an idea or story to share, the student will put a save-it card in the idea pocket (or draw a quick picture) and share the idea at share time independently in at least 4 of 5 opportunities, on 4 of 5 observed days, as measured by frequency recording collected daily in one lesson.
Baseline: 0 of 5 opportunities.

Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.
Met: Condition. Stated.
Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.
Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.
Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.
Met: Method produces the metric. Frequency (event) recording gives opportunities data.
Met: Review timeframe. Stated.
Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.
Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Impulse Control & Inhibition.
Met: Level of support. Defined.
Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.
Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
Short-term objectives (optional)
When are objectives required?Required for students on alternate assessments (34 CFR §300.320(a)(2)(ii)); some states require them for everyone.

- Record up to 5 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
