Clear out the downloads folder each week
When to use this goal
For students on laptops or tablets whose downloads folder, desktop, or photo roll fills with handouts, screenshots, and copies until the device slows and files are lost. The student should already open and save files. Present levels, not grade, decide fit.
- Baseline
- Before teaching, count the files in the downloads folder and on the desktop, and the number of open tabs. Then have the student do a clean-out with no checklist and score the steps.
- Tips
- Ten minutes on Friday is enough. Before deleting, the student checks that the file is saved somewhere else. Steps can be renamed to match the device (photo roll, camera folder). Count of leftover files is a quick extra data point.
- Limits
- Device management settings may block some steps; drop them from the list. Does not measure where files are saved in the first place.

- Write the date at the top of each session column. Mark each step I, S, or N.
- Total the number of I marks for the session. The goal counts steps completed independently (target: 5 of 6).
- Use the least intrusive prompt first and record the prompt actually needed.
