Predict a test score within ten points of the actual score
When to use this goal
For students whose present levels show surprise at every test score, high or low, which means studying is not guided by self-knowledge. Fits classes with regular quizzes and tests.
- Baseline
- Collect predictions on the next three or four tests and record the gap and direction. Consistent over-prediction suggests the student does not notice uncertainty; under-prediction suggests something else and may call for a counselor's input.
- Tips
- Each test is one opportunity. Met means the prediction is within 10 points of the score. Have the student mark unsure items during the test; counting them makes prediction concrete. Review the gap with the student after each test.
- Limits
- Tests are irregular; data accumulate over a semester. The 10-point window should match the test scale; adjust for short quizzes.

- Record up to 5 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
