Match a written answer to every prompt part
When to use this goal
For students whose written responses answer only part of the question (explain but no evidence, one of two characters). Fits classes with multi-part constructed-response prompts. Present levels decide the number of parts in the prompt.
- Baseline
- Gather five recent constructed responses and count how many answered every part of the prompt. Then watch one response being written to see whether the student rereads the prompt at all.
- Tips
- Each response is one opportunity; met means every part is answered and marked. The numbered prompt and margin marks make scoring quick from the work sample. Score whether parts are present, not whether the content is correct.
- Limits
- A response can include every part and still be wrong; content accuracy belongs in the subject-area goal. Prompts with hidden parts (compare implies two things) need teaching first.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, after writing a response to a multi-part constructed-response prompt in a content class, the student will number each part of the prompt, mark where each part is answered, and add any missing part before submitting independently in at least 4 of 5 opportunities, on 4 of 5 consecutive written responses, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected weekly.

Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.
Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.
Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.
Met: Method produces the metric. Opportunity (trial) recording gives opportunities data.
Met: Review timeframe. Stated.
Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.
Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Self-Monitoring.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
Short-term objectives (optional)
When are objectives required?Required for students on alternate assessments (34 CFR §300.320(a)(2)(ii)); some states require them for everyone.

- Record up to 5 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
