Take notes from a textbook section using the headings

When to use this goal

For students whose present levels show textbook notes that are copied sentences or nothing at all. Requires reading at the text level or access to audio. Present levels decide the section length.

Baseline
Score two sets of notes taken without instruction. Copied sentences score low on row 3 and are the most common pattern. Check reading level; notes cannot be better than the reading.
Tips
Write descriptors for each row. Own words means the student could explain the term without the book; a quick oral check confirms it. Fade from a filled template to a blank page with the headings strategy.
Limits
Text structure varies; some sections lack headings. Scores the notes, not whether the student studies from them.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, given a textbook section of 2 to 4 pages with headings and bold terms, the student will take notes on the section that meet the notes rubric independently, earning a score of at least 6 out of 8 on a 4-row textbook notes rubric scored 0 to 2 per row, on 3 of 4 consecutive note sets, as measured by a defined scoring rubric collected weekly.

Baseline: 2 out of 8 rubric points.
