Plan an essay answer before writing it
When to use this goal
For students who start writing an essay test answer immediately and run out of points or time. Writing skills should allow a paragraph answer with supports. Present levels, not grade, decide the plan format.
- Baseline
- Score two or three recent essay answers with the rubric (the plan row will likely be 0). Note whether answers are short, off topic, or miss a part of the question.
- Tips
- The margin plan is visible on the test, so the work sample holds the data. Teach a 2-minute planning habit even on timed tests. The content teacher can score content; the case manager scores the rubric.
- Limits
- The rubric scores structure, not content accuracy. Essay questions are irregular; use practice questions to fill gaps.
