Look up answers in notes on open-note tests
When to use this goal
For students allowed notes on tests (by class policy or accommodation) who do not open them or search them so slowly they run out of time. The notes should be the student's own or a provided notes page. Present levels, not grade, decide fit.
- Baseline
- Before the test, mark which items the student's notes cover. After the test, score accuracy on those items only. Watch a few minutes to see whether the student opens the notes at all.
- Tips
- Only items covered by the notes count, so the score reflects use of the notes, not gaps in them. Tabs by topic speed searching. Pair with a note-taking goal if the notes are incomplete.
- Limits
- Depends on note quality: if the notes are missing content, the score drops for reasons this goal does not target. Open-note tests are not common in every course.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, during an open-note quiz or test with the student's organized notes on the desk, the student will check the notes or reference page for items they are unsure of and answer using the matching part of the notes independently with at least 80% accuracy on test items whose answers are found in the notes, on 3 of 4 consecutive open-note tests, as measured by work-sample analysis collected with each open-note test or quiz.
Baseline: 50% accuracy.

- Score only items the student attempted unless the goal defines a fixed set of items. Use the same denominator every session.
- Percent = numerator ÷ denominator × 100. Round to one decimal place.
- Record the support actually provided, even if the goal is independent performance.
