Set up a home study spot and routine
When to use this goal
For students who start homework in different places each night with the phone, TV, or siblings nearby and lose time to setup. Families choose the space; it does not need to be a desk. Present levels and family input, not grade, decide fit.
- Baseline
- Talk with the student and family about how homework starts now. Have the student or family check the steps for a week. In an after-school program, staff can observe directly.
- Tips
- Home data rest on self-report and family checks; keep the checklist short so it gets used. Respect family space and routines; a kitchen table works. The phone step can be adjusted if the phone holds needed apps.
- Limits
- Home conditions vary and are outside school control. Self-report may be optimistic; compare with homework completion data.
