Finish cleanup before the visual timer runs out
When to use this goal
For young children whose present levels show cleanup and transitions stretch far past the time the class allows. The child must already know the cleanup steps; this goal is about pace. Present levels decide the timer length.
- Baseline
- Time how long the child's cleanup takes for a week without a timer, then set the timer slightly above the median so early success is likely. Note whether slowness comes from wandering, playing with materials, or not knowing where items go.
- Tips
- Each timed cleanup is one opportunity. Met means the child's materials are put away before the timer ends. Keep the timer where the child can see it. Shorten the timer only after several weeks of success.
- Limits
- Group cleanups are noisy and peers may help; score only what the child did. A child can beat the timer by shoving things anywhere; pair with ef-org-006 for correct placement.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, when a 3-minute visual timer is started with the cleanup signal, the student will put away the materials before the timer ends independently in at least 4 of 5 opportunities, across 3 consecutive weeks, as measured by direct observation collected daily during cleanup and summarized weekly.

- Record up to 5 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
