Record start and end times for each task on a time log
When to use this goal
For students whose present levels show no sense of where their time goes during work periods. The log builds the data for later estimation and scheduling goals. For students who can read a clock.
- Baseline
- Give the log for a week and count tasks with both times entered at the time they happened (not filled in at the end). Check entries against the adult's observation of when tasks started and ended.
- Tips
- Each task worked on is one opportunity. Met means a start time and an end time are written within 2 minutes of the real times. Review the log weekly with the student and total the minutes per task; that review is where the learning happens.
- Limits
- Logs can be back-filled; adult spot-checks keep them honest. Logging adds a small burden; stop once the student estimates time accurately.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, during a support period with a time log and a list of tasks, the student will write the start and end time for each task on the time log as it happens independently in at least 8 of 10 opportunities, across 3 consecutive weekly reviews, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected each support period and summarized weekly.

Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.
Met: Condition. Stated.
Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.
Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.
Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.
Met: Method produces the metric. Opportunity (trial) recording gives opportunities data.
Met: Review timeframe. Stated.
Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.
Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Time Management.
Met: Level of support. Defined.
Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.
Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
Short-term objectives (optional)
When are objectives required?Required for students on alternate assessments (34 CFR §300.320(a)(2)(ii)); some states require them for everyone.

- Record up to 10 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
