Get ready for work or school on time

9-12DurationTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For transition-age students whose morning routine runs long, making them late for school, a job, or a ride. The routine steps should be ones the student does. Present levels and family input, not grade, decide the time target.

Baseline
Ask the family or student to log wake-up and leave times for a week. Find the steps that take longest.
Tips
Set the target from when the student must leave, not an ideal. Checkpoint times (dressed by 6:45) help. Lab practice gives observed data.
Limits
Home data are reported by the family or student, not observed. Family schedules, shared bathrooms, and rides affect mornings; set the target with the family and review it if the household routine changes.

Criterion

How long a behavior lasts, from a defined start to a defined end.

Sample numbers. Replace them with the student's data.

Data collection

The length of time a behavior lasts is timed from a defined start to a defined end.

How many measurements must meet the criterion.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, on a school or work morning, starting at the wake-up alarm, the student will complete the morning routine and be out the door, using clock checkpoints independently within 40 minutes, on 4 of 5 consecutive weekday mornings, as measured by duration recording collected daily, from a family or self log.

Baseline: 70 minutes.

Measurability check11 of 11 met
  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Duration fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Duration recording gives duration data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Time Management.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
