Finish a job task within the standard time

9-12DurationTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For transition-age students at work sites who do tasks well but too slowly for the employer's standard. The task should be learned. Present levels, not grade, decide the target, set with the supervisor.

Baseline
Time the task from start to finish across three shifts and ask the supervisor for the site's time standard. Check quality on the same tasks so the baseline shows whether speed or accuracy is the gap.
Tips
Quality must stay at the site's standard while pace changes; record both on the same sheet. Set the target with the supervisor and step it down in stages. The visual timer can be a phone or a watch, which looks typical on the job.
Limits
Speed targets must be fair, set with the employer, and adjusted for any motor or health needs. Does not measure quality alone; a fast but wrong task is not met.

Something an adult can see, count or time.

Criterion

How long a behavior lasts, from a defined start to a defined end.

Sample numbers. Replace them with the student's data.

Data collection

The length of time a behavior lasts is timed from a defined start to a defined end.

How often data are collected
Mastery rule

How many measurements must meet the criterion.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, at a work-based learning site, during a familiar task with a time standard, the student will complete the job task to standard independently within 15 minutes, on 4 of 5 consecutive shifts, as measured by duration recording collected each shift, summarized weekly.

Baseline: 25 minutes.

Measurability check11 of 11 met
  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Duration fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Duration recording gives duration data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Time Management.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.

Short-term objectives (optional)

When are objectives required?

Required for students on alternate assessments (34 CFR §300.320(a)(2)(ii)); some states require them for everyone.
