Tell an adult when finding pills or medicine

When to use this goal

For young students who might pick up and taste pills, vitamins, or medicine bottles they find. Present levels in telling an adult about something they find decide fit. Practice uses empty, cleaned bottles or clearly fake pills that cannot be eaten.

Baseline
Plan 5 practice finds over 2 weeks with safe props. Count correct when the student did not open or taste the item and told an adult. Every find must be handled safely, so the target is all five.
Tips
Teach the rule in plain words: medicine is only from your grown-up or the nurse. Share the rule with the family and suggest locked storage at home. Never use real medicine in practice.
Limits
Practice props may not be as tempting as real candy-like vitamins. The goal does not replace safe storage by adults.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, during a planned practice, when an empty, sealed medicine bottle is placed where the student will find it, the student will leave the medicine where it is and tell an adult right away independently in 5 of 5 opportunities, across 3 consecutive practice sessions, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected twice monthly, during practice sessions.
