Turn off the stove and check every burner

6-8, 9-12OpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For students who cook with a stovetop or oven and leave a burner on or forget the oven. Present levels in reading dial positions or symbols decide fit. This is a check routine done every time cooking ends.

Baseline
Record 8 cooking sessions: did the student turn everything off and check without a prompt. Any burner left on is a fire risk, so the target is every session.
Tips
Touch-and-say makes the check visible. Mark the off position on each dial with a bright dot. Families may want a stove timer or auto shut-off device as a backup.
Limits
Staff still check the stove. Gas stoves need a separate rule about smell and flames.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, at the end of every cooking lesson that uses the stove or oven, the student will turn every burner and the oven to off and check each dial before leaving the kitchen independently in 8 of 8 opportunities, across 2 consecutive data periods, as measured by direct observation collected at every cooking session, summarized every eight sessions.

Baseline: 3 of 8 opportunities.
