Store coat and backpack within the arrival window
When to use this goal
For students who can take off and hang their things but drift, play, or stall at the hooks, so they miss the start of morning work. Base the choice on timed arrival data. Present levels and the OT's observation of the routine, not grade or age, decide whether this template fits.
- Baseline
- Time the routine for at least 5 mornings, from the moment the student walks through the door to the moment they sit. Note what happens in the gaps (talking, looking at the hooks, waiting for help) so the plan targets the slow part.
- Tips
- Set the target from the typical time classmates take, not from a rule. Give the student a hook at the end of the row if crowding slows them down. Talking with friends on the way is fine; time only the hanging and the walk to the seat.
- Limits
- A time goal assumes the student already does every step. If steps are missing, use a task-analysis goal first. Timing does not show whether the coat is hung so it stays up.
