Enter numbers on a keypad from a card
When to use this goal
For students who recognize numerals and need to use them on keypads: phone numbers, door codes, locker numbers, lunch PINs. Present levels in numeral recognition and finger isolation decide fit. Practice numbers should not be the student's real private codes.
- Baseline
- Give 10 cards and score each number as correct only if every digit is right. Note whether errors are skipped, swapped, or repeated digits.
- Tips
- Grouped digits (555 123 4567) are easier to track. Use the student's own phone layout. Keep real PINs and codes private; practice with made-up numbers.
- Limits
- Does not measure remembering numbers. Fine motor needs may require a stylus or larger buttons.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, given a practice keypad or phone dial screen and 10 number cards of 4 to 10 digits, the student will enter each number on the keypad in order and check it on the screen before pressing enter independently with at least 90% accuracy on numbers entered correctly, across 3 consecutive weekly probes, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected weekly.
Baseline: 40% accuracy.

Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.
Met: Condition. Stated.
Met: Unit fits the behavior. Percent accuracy fits this behavior.
Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.
Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.
Met: Method produces the metric. Opportunity (trial) recording gives percent accuracy data.
Met: Review timeframe. Stated.
Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.
Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Functional Academics.
Met: Level of support. Defined.
Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.
Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
Short-term objectives (optional)
When are objectives required?Required for students on alternate assessments (34 CFR §300.320(a)(2)(ii)); some states require them for everyone.

- Score only items the student attempted unless the goal defines a fixed set of items. Use the same denominator every session.
- Percent = numerator ÷ denominator × 100. Round to one decimal place.
- Record the support actually provided, even if the goal is independent performance.
