Carry an epinephrine kit to every outing
When to use this goal
For students with a severe allergy whose action plan and state rules allow or require them to carry their epinephrine kit, and who leave it in a locker or at home. Base the choice on the plan, the nurse, and the family. Using the auto-injector follows the emergency plan, not this goal.
- Baseline
- For two weeks, a staff member checks quietly each morning and at each departure whether the kit is with the student, and records where it was when it was missing. A backup kit stays with the nurse throughout.
- Tips
- Every opportunity must be met, since the kit only helps if it is there. Choose a bag or pouch the student is willing to carry every day. Trip leaders still confirm the kit before leaving.
- Limits
- Carrying the kit is not the same as knowing when it is used; the emergency plan and trained adults cover that. This goal never replaces the individualized health plan, medication orders, or an emergency action plan; the nurse, the family, and the student's health care provider decide care, and the goal follows their plan.

- Record up to 10 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
