Ask about ingredients when ordering food
When to use this goal
For older students and transition students with a food allergy who will order food on their own at restaurants, cafeterias, and work events, and who currently rely on a parent to ask. Present levels decide fit. Every order must include the check.
- Baseline
- Use 3 role-plays and any recent real orders. Record whether the student told the server, asked, and decided safely. Carry the emergency kit on every outing (fn-hlt-010).
- Tips
- Every order must include the check. Teach that "I'm not sure" from a server means choose something else. Staff still check during school outings.
- Limits
- Restaurants vary in how well they answer; the student's asking is necessary but not sufficient. Role-play does not fully copy a busy counter. This goal never replaces the individualized health plan, medication orders, or an emergency action plan; the nurse, the family, and the student's health care provider decide care, and the goal follows their plan.

- Record up to 5 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
