Use a leisure kit during free time
When to use this goal
For older students with significant support needs who need staff to start and keep every leisure activity going. Present levels decide fit. The kit holds age-matched items the student chose (magazines, a music player, a sorting or matching set, a handheld game, a fidget, a photo album).
- Baseline
- Time 5 or more free times: minutes the student used kit items without staff starting each one. Use a preference check to stock the kit. Start from an interest inventory with the student and family, and offer age-matched choices; a preferred repetitive activity is a valid way to relax, not a problem to fix.
- Tips
- Count minutes with any kit item, in the student's own way. Refresh items every few months. The kit should travel to community and work settings.
- Limits
- Duration depends on the items; rotate favorites. Does not measure choosing or peer leisure.
