Work alone at a structured work station
When to use this goal
For preschoolers who stay at the table with an adult beside them (fn-pk-008) but stop when the adult steps away. Present levels in completing a mastered task and in staying at a table decide fit. Task boxes hold tasks the student already knows.
- Baseline
- Time from the adult stepping away to the student stopping work or leaving, for 5 days. Use only tasks the student already finishes with an adult present.
- Tips
- Start with tasks that take two or three minutes and build up. Only mastered tasks go in the box; new learning happens with the adult. This is the start of the independent work systems used in kindergarten.
- Limits
- Measures independent engagement, not learning. Stopping because the task is too hard means the task needs changing.
