Walk between buildings on a split campus

6-8, 9-12OpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For students on campuses with an annex, portable classrooms, or a neighboring building used for some classes, who get lost or arrive late when classes are in the other building. Present levels in following routes and reading signs decide fit. The team approves the outdoor route as safe for the student.

Baseline
Record 8 trips: did the student take the approved route and arrive before the bell without help. The receiving teacher marks arrival; note weather and crowding.
Tips
Walk the route together before the term starts. Mark doors with the same symbol used on the schedule. Tell the receiving teacher to call the office if the student does not arrive within a set time.
Limits
Not for students whose safety plan requires an escort outdoors. Weather and construction change routes.

What the student will do

Something an adult can see, count or time.

When or under what conditions

Support

Support allowed

Criterion

Number of opportunities in which the behavior is demonstrated, out of a fixed number.

Sample numbers. Replace them with the student's data.

Criterion wording

Data collection

An adult observes and records the defined behavior during a specified activity.

How often data are collected
Mastery rule

How many measurements must meet the criterion.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, when the schedule shows a class in the annex or portable building, during the passing period, the student will walk the planned route to the class in the other building and arrive before the bell independently in at least 7 of 8 opportunities, across 2 consecutive weeks, as measured by direct observation collected at each trip between buildings, summarized weekly.

Baseline: 3 of 8 opportunities.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Direct observation gives opportunities data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about School-Related Independence.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
