Arrive at bathroom checks with dry clothing
When to use this goal
For students on a toileting schedule who are using the toilet at sits but still have accidents between them. Base the choice on dry-check data, not age. Use alongside a request goal (fn-toi-001), so the student has a way to go between checks.
- Baseline
- Log every scheduled check for two weeks: dry or wet, the time, and fluid intake when known. Note the longest dry interval. Set the check interval a little shorter than the usual dry interval at first so the student has success, then lengthen it. Keep the data sheet in a closed folder or on a coded log, never posted where peers or visitors can see it, and agree with the family on the words used for body parts and the routine.
- Tips
- Check privately (a quiet question, or the student's own report) rather than in front of peers. Change wet clothing calmly and without comment, using the student's spare clothes (fn-toi-017). The interval should grow only when the student is dry at most checks for a week or more.
- Limits
- Dry checks show results, not the skill that produced them; the request and routine goals carry the teaching. Medical conditions affecting bladder control need nurse and medical guidance first. Not for students whose plan uses briefs or catheterization; write the routine around their equipment instead.

- Record up to 6 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
