Sit on the toilet for a timed sit

PK, K-2DurationTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For young students who walk to the bathroom but get up within seconds, before the body has time to go. Present levels and timed sit data decide fit, not age. Short sits are the goal; long sits are uncomfortable and are not a target.

Baseline
Time 5 or more sits from sitting down to standing up, and note what the student did when they stood (reached for the door, said all done, cried). Ask the family how long sits last at home and what helps. Keep the data sheet in a closed folder or on a coded log, never posted where peers or visitors can see it, and agree with the family on the words used for body parts and the routine.
Tips
Timing starts when the student sits and ends when they stand. Ending the sit as soon as the student uses the toilet counts as meeting the goal. Keep sits short (a few minutes at most) and pleasant; never hold a student on the toilet.
Limits
Sitting time is a step toward results, not a result; track outcomes with fn-toi-003. Discomfort, constipation, or fear of falling can cut sits short; check the seating (fn-toi-006) and ask the nurse and family.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, during scheduled toileting sits in the classroom bathroom, the student will remain seated on the toilet with a visual timer showing the sit time for at least 3 minutes, on 4 of 5 consecutive school days, as measured by duration recording collected daily at two scheduled sits.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Duration fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Duration recording gives duration data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Toileting.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
