Use the class bathroom signal during a lesson
When to use this goal
For primary students who can toilet on their own but wait until it is too late during lessons, or leave the room without telling anyone. Base the choice on teacher logs. Fits students who can recognize the need to go but do not yet use the class system for asking.
- Baseline
- For two weeks, the teacher logs each time the student went or needed to go during a lesson: used the signal, left without telling, or had a near-accident or accident. Ask the student, privately, what makes asking hard (missing something, the teacher being busy, peers watching).
- Tips
- Teachers honor the signal right away for this student; a class rule to wait until a break defeats the goal. A silent signal or card protects privacy better than asking out loud. Score each time the need came up during a lesson.
- Limits
- The teacher may not see every need; use the student's own report and accident logs as checks. Students with medical urgency need a standing pass in their health plan, not a skill goal.

- Record up to 5 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
