Roll silverware at a restaurant's pace

9-12Rate (per minute)TemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For students who roll silverware sets correctly but too slowly for the site's prep window. Accuracy must already be high; present levels in fine motor skills decide the setup and whether a jig is used.

Baseline
Time 3 samples on different days and count only sets that meet the standard. Time a coworker for the site's typical rate and set the target with the supervisor.
Tips
Graph the rate with the student. Keep the setup the same across samples. Building rate on a familiar task helps the student meet the site's expectations, which matters for being hired.
Limits
Rate on one task does not carry to others. Pushing pace too soon can raise errors and stress.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, during a prep shift at a restaurant or school cafe, given napkins and silverware and a 10-minute timed work sample (total divided by 10 for the per-minute rate), the student will roll silverware sets that meet the site's standard during the timed sample independently at a rate of at least 3 correct sets per minute, on 3 consecutive weekly timed samples, as measured by timed probes collected weekly.

Baseline: 1 correct sets per minute.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Rate (per minute) fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Timed probes gives rate (per minute) data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Vocational & Work Readiness.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
