Label and date food for storage
When to use this goal
For students in kitchen placements who store food but leave labels off, write the wrong date or put items in the wrong spot. Present levels in reading dates and writing decide whether preprinted labels or a date stamp are used.
- Baseline
- Check every container the student stores on 2 shifts. A container counts only when the label is complete, the dates are right and it is in the right spot.
- Tips
- Food safety is a high bar; aim for every container once the routine is stable. Use the site's real system, including date rotation (oldest in front).
- Limits
- Checks storage, not prep. Sites use different systems; rewrite the chart for each site.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, at the end of a prep shift, given prepared food, storage containers, labels and the site's use-by chart, the student will label each container with the item, date and use-by date and store it in the right place independently with at least 95% accuracy on containers labeled and stored correctly, on 3 consecutive shifts, as measured by work-sample analysis collected at each shift, checking all containers stored.
Baseline: 50% accuracy.

Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.
Met: Condition. Stated.
Met: Unit fits the behavior. Percent accuracy fits this behavior.
Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.
Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.
Met: Method produces the metric. Work-sample analysis gives percent accuracy data.
Met: Review timeframe. Stated.
Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.
Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Vocational & Work Readiness.
Met: Level of support. Defined.
Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.
Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
Short-term objectives (optional)
When are objectives required?Required for students on alternate assessments (34 CFR §300.320(a)(2)(ii)); some states require them for everyone.

- Score only items the student attempted unless the goal defines a fixed set of items. Use the same denominator every session.
- Percent = numerator ÷ denominator × 100. Round to one decimal place.
- Record the support actually provided, even if the goal is independent performance.
