Keep score by adding points in a game
When to use this goal
For students who add on worksheets but do not use addition in play, and who benefit from practice with peers. Present levels in adding within 20 decide readiness; larger totals fit older students.
- Baseline
- Each turn is one opportunity; record the first 10 turns. Note whether errors happen more as the total grows past 20 or 100.
- Tips
- Scorekeeping gives the student a valued role in the group. Subtraction can be added with games that take points away.
- Limits
- Game pace varies; peers may correct the student before data is recorded. Agree that peers wait until the total is written.

- Record up to 10 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
