Write a survey question and collect the data
When to use this goal
For students who can tally answers to a given question but cannot plan their own data collection. Present levels in collecting data with tallies and building bar graphs decide readiness.
- Baseline
- Score one project at baseline. Overlapping answer choices are common at first.
- Tips
- Surveying peers is also a social interaction task; plan support if needed.
- Limits
- Projects take time; collect fewer, richer samples.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, given a class topic and the direction to plan and run a short survey of peers, the student will write a clear question with 3 to 5 answer choices, survey at least 10 people, record the answers, and show the results in a graph independently, earning a score of at least 7 out of 8 on a 4-row survey project rubric (0 to 2 points per row), on 2 consecutive survey projects, as measured by a defined scoring rubric collected monthly.
Baseline: 3 out of 8 rubric points.

Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.
Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.
Met: Method produces the metric. Rubric scoring gives rubric score data.
Met: Review timeframe. Stated.
Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.
Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Patterns, Data & Graphs.
Met: Level of support. Defined.

- Score each sample with a 4-row survey project rubric (0 to 2 points per row). Attach or reference the rubric's score descriptors.
- Use the same prompt type and conditions for each scored sample.
- If two people score, check agreement on a few samples before relying on the data.
