Name the day, month and date during the calendar routine
When to use this goal
For young students or students with significant support needs who take part in a daily calendar routine but cannot yet say the day or find today's date. Present levels in sequencing and in numeral recognition decide which parts to include.
- Baseline
- Record each question (today, yesterday, tomorrow, month, date) separately over five days. Today is usually learned first; yesterday and tomorrow depend on sequencing and are often reversed. Mondays are the hardest day for yesterday.
- Tips
- An opportunity is one calendar question; five a day fits most routines. For AAC users, program the days and months on the device and count a selection as a response.
- Limits
- Daily calendar answers can be learned as a chant; check with a question out of routine ("what day is the field trip?"). Does not measure reading a calendar to find future dates.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, during the daily calendar routine, when asked what day it is, what day was yesterday, and what day tomorrow will be, the student will say or select the day of the week, yesterday and tomorrow independently in at least 4 of 5 opportunities, on 4 of 5 consecutive school days, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected daily during the calendar routine.
Baseline: 1 of 5 opportunities.

Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.
Met: Condition. Stated.
Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.
Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.
Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.
Met: Method produces the metric. Opportunity (trial) recording gives opportunities data.
Met: Review timeframe. Stated.
Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.
Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Measurement, Time & Money.
Met: Level of support. Defined.
Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.
Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
Short-term objectives (optional)
When are objectives required?Required for students on alternate assessments (34 CFR §300.320(a)(2)(ii)); some states require them for everyone.

- Record up to 5 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
