Judge whether an activity takes minutes or hours
When to use this goal
For students who have no sense of how long things take, which makes waiting, planning and reading schedules hard. Present levels in sequencing daily events decide readiness.
- Baseline
- Use activities from the student's own day. Time a few real activities together so the student has benchmarks.
- Tips
- A sense of duration supports waiting and transitions. Units of time (ma-mtm-007) build on this.
- Limits
- Answers can depend on the student's own experience; accept reasonable answers with a reason.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, given 8 pictured activities, such as washing hands or a school day, and the question "does this take seconds, minutes or hours?", the student will say or select the unit that fits each activity independently on at least 7 of 8 items, on 3 of 4 consecutive sessions, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected weekly.
Baseline: 3 of 8 opportunities.

Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.
Met: Condition. Stated.
Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.
Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.
Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.
Met: Method produces the metric. Opportunity (trial) recording gives opportunities data.
Met: Review timeframe. Stated.
Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.
Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Measurement, Time & Money.
Met: Level of support. Defined.
Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.
Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.

- Record up to 8 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
