Turn to a stated page number

K-2, 3-5OpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For students who can name numbers but cannot use number order to find a page in a book or workbook, so they lose time and miss the start of lessons. Present levels in number order to at least 100 decide readiness.

Baseline
Record the time taken as well as whether the page was found; a student who finds the page after the lesson has moved on has not met the need. Note whether the student flips one page at a time.
Tips
A real classroom routine gives many chances a day. For older students, the same skill applies to finding a section in a manual or binder.
Limits
Depends on the book having visible page numbers. Does not measure number sense beyond ordering.

Skill

What the student will do

Something an adult can see, count or time.

Condition

When or under what conditions

Support

Support allowed

Criterion

Number of opportunities in which the behavior is demonstrated, out of a fixed number.

Sample numbers. Replace them with the student's data.

Criterion wording

Data collection

An adult observes and records the defined behavior during a specified activity.

How often data are collected
Mastery rule

How many measurements must meet the criterion.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, when the teacher says or writes a page number from 1 to 200 during a lesson, the student will use the page numbers to decide whether to go forward or back and turn to the stated page independently in at least 4 of 5 opportunities, on 4 of 5 observed days, as measured by direct observation collected daily during math and reading lessons.

Baseline: 2 of 5 opportunities.

Measurability check11 of 11 met
  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Direct observation gives opportunities data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Number Sense.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.

Short-term objectives (optional)

When are objectives required?

Required for students on alternate assessments (34 CFR §300.320(a)(2)(ii)); some states require them for everyone.
