Choose and rate a try-menu food

K-2, 3-5OpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For students with a limited food list who can make choices and use a simple rating scale, and who want more control over trying foods. Fits when the student and family agree to it, decided by present levels and team input.

Baseline
At five tasting times, record whether the student chose a food, what they did with it, and their rating. Collect the family's list of foods eaten at home; the try menu should include foods close to those (a new brand, a new shape).
Tips
The rating, not the eating, is the point: it gives the student a voice and a record of foods they might like. A not-for-me rating is a complete success. Share the ratings with the family.
Limits
Food textures, liquid thickness, positioning for safe swallowing and any swallowing precautions come from the student's feeding or swallowing plan, which this goal never changes. Foods must be safe for the plan and allergies. The goal does not aim at intake and is not a substitute for clinical feeding therapy.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, during a weekly tasting time, given a menu of three new foods the student helped choose, the student will choose one food from the try menu, explore it in a chosen way, and rate it on a three-point scale (like it, okay, not for me) with no adult prompts in at least 4 of 5 opportunities, across 4 consecutive weeks, as measured by direct observation collected weekly at tasting time.
