Use the push-button door opener on a route
When to use this goal
For students using a wheelchair, walker or crutches who wait at heavy doors for someone to open them. Fits when the routes have push-button openers the student can reach, decided by observed routes rather than grade.
- Baseline
- List the doors with openers on the student's daily routes and record six door passes, noting whether the student pressed the button, waited for an adult, or got through before the door closed. Check that every button is within reach from the student's chair or device.
- Tips
- Small doors on a route add up; one door that blocks the student means an adult has to come along. Report doors without working openers to the team.
- Limits
- Broken or out-of-reach buttons are a facility issue. The goal does not cover doors without openers, which may need a different strategy or a building change.

- Record up to 6 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
