Run or wheel a 50-meter dash

When to use this goal

For students in track units, field day, or Special Olympics who leave the lane, stop before the finish, or start late. Wheelchair users race the same distance in a lane. Fit depends on a timed trial, not grade.

Baseline
Time three trials on separate days and use the median. Note lane departures and stops; those may matter more than speed at first.
Tips
Running through the finish is a skill to teach. Use the student's own time as the target, not peers' times.
Limits
Seasonal by unit. Medical clearance needed for students with heart or breathing conditions.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, on a marked track lane at the start signal, racing 50 meters, the student will complete the 50-meter dash in the lane, starting on the signal and running or wheeling through the finish line independently within 14 seconds, on 3 consecutive weekly timed trials, as measured by duration recording collected weekly during track units.

Baseline: 20 seconds.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Duration fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Duration recording gives duration data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.
