Shoot baskets at a lowered hoop

3-5, 6-8OpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For students who cannot reach a regulation hoop with a two-hand shot, including wheelchair users, and who are left out of basketball units. A lowered hoop and a lighter ball are standard adaptations. Fit depends on a trial, not grade.

Baseline
Score 10 shots at a set distance and height. Count rim hits and makes. Record ball size and hoop height so probes stay the same.
Tips
Rim hits count early on so the student sees progress. Let peers use the lowered hoop too; it becomes a shared station.
Limits
Seasonal by unit. Wheelchair users may need a PT or APE assessment of seating for shooting.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, standing or seated 6 feet from a hoop lowered to 6 to 8 feet with a lightweight ball, the student will shoot the ball with a two-hand or one-hand push so it hits the rim or goes in independently in at least 6 of 10 trials, across 3 consecutive weekly sessions, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected 10 shots per session.
