Choose a line spot with more space

PK, K-2OpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For young children who push, hit or leave when peers touch or bump them in line or on the rug, and who can learn to choose a spot with more space. Present levels and the OT's profile decide fit.

Baseline
Record five line-ups or group times: where the child stood or sat, whether they chose it, and any bumping. Ask the family how the child handles crowds at home.
Tips
A spot with space is an easy accommodation; this goal teaches the child to claim it. Keep the end-of-line spot available rather than rotating it away.
Limits
The goal does not ask the child to accept touch. Peers also need to learn to respect space.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, when the class lines up at the door, the student will choose a spot with more space, such as the front or end of the line or the edge of the rug, and go to it, or ask an adult for that spot with no adult prompts in at least 4 of 5 opportunities, on 4 of 5 observed days, as measured by direct observation collected daily at line-up and group times.

Baseline: 1 of 5 opportunities.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Direct observation gives opportunities data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Sensory Processing & Regulation.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
