Bump a volleyball with a forearm pass
When to use this goal
For students in a volleyball unit who swing their arms at the ball or try to catch it. Present levels on the rubric, not grade, decide fit. A beach ball or a light trainer ball is a sound starting point and can be noted in the condition.
- Baseline
- Score the skill on the rubric across at least 3 PE sessions before setting a target, filming a few attempts if the family and school allow it so two scorers can agree. Score each component from what is seen, not from whether the ball went where it should. Record the ball type; moving from a beach ball to a trainer ball usually drops scores at first.
- Tips
- Use the same tosser and distance for every probe so scores reflect the student. A catch-and-toss rule for teammates lets the student use the bump in a real game before full rallies are possible. Rotate the student through serving and setting roles in game play so the unit is not only drills.
- Limits
- Form on tosses does not predict passing a served ball. The rubric does not score where the ball lands. Students with shoulder or wrist pain should be checked by the PT or nurse before repeated forearm contact.
