Find items on a shelf by matching labels
When to use this goal
For transition-age students in stocking, library, or warehouse tasks who pull the wrong item or miss items on the shelf because they do not scan in an organized way. Fit depends on job-site data, not grade.
- Baseline
- Use two 10-item pick lists and record correct pulls, wrong pulls, and misses. Watch the scanning pattern; random searching is the common problem.
- Tips
- Teach a set scanning pattern and practice it in the real space. Color tags are common workplace supports and can stay.
- Limits
- Reading labels may be the real barrier; picture lists help. Does not measure speed.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, given a pick list of 10 items with picture or printed labels in a school store or supply room, the student will scan the shelf from top to bottom and left to right and pull each listed item independently on at least 9 of 10 items, across 3 consecutive work sessions, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected each work session.

- Record up to 10 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
