Draw what a described scene looks like
When to use this goal
For young students who listen to descriptions without picturing them, so they lose track of setting and events when books have few pictures. Drawing makes the mental picture visible. Present levels decide the text level.
- Baseline
- Pick 3 key details per description before scoring. Drawing skill does not count; a labeled stick figure is fine. Let the student explain the drawing.
- Tips
- Students with motor needs can choose from picture pieces or describe aloud instead. A sketch box on a graphic organizer works for older readers too.
- Limits
- Drawing takes time; keep descriptions short.
