Follow the reader's line in a big book

PK, K-2OpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For preschool students who look at the pictures or elsewhere during group reading and cannot show which part of the page is being read. Present levels in pointing to print versus pictures show readiness.

Baseline
Pause five times during big book reading across a week. Count a point to the correct line. Seat the student where they can reach and see the book, and note the seat in the data.
Tips
Give the student the pointer for a page now and then. Big books make the print visible to the group. Students with low vision may need a personal copy of the book.
Limits
Group settings vary in noise and distraction. The goal does not require word-by-word pointing.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, during whole-group shared reading of a big book, when the adult pauses mid-page and asks the student to show where we are, the student will point to the line the adult is reading independently in at least 4 of 5 opportunities, across 3 consecutive weeks of data, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected weekly.

Baseline: 1 of 5 opportunities.
