Taught words in a reading app

3-5, K-2Percent accuracyTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For students who read taught words in print but miss them on a screen, where fonts, colors, and layouts differ. Fit depends on present levels showing reliable reading of the words on paper.

Baseline
Pick 15 words the student reads reliably in print, then probe them on screen. The gap between the two is the target. Note the device and app.
Tips
Screens are where much reading now happens. Teach the student to zoom or change the font when the word looks unfamiliar.
Limits
Apps change; keep a screenshot set for probes. Highlighting may not reflect how the words appear in normal use.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, given 15 taught words appearing in sentences in a reading app or class website, the student will read each highlighted taught word aloud independently with at least 90% accuracy on taught words read on screen, across 3 consecutive sessions, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected weekly.

Baseline: 50% accuracy.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Percent accuracy fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Opportunity (trial) recording gives percent accuracy data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Sight Word Recognition.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.

Short-term objectives (optional)

When are objectives required?
