Timed sight-word sentence probe
When to use this goal
For students who read sight words on lists but slow down when those words are in sentences, and who are not yet ready for open passages. Sentences use only taught sight words and a few decodable words. Present levels decide the word pool.
- Baseline
- Write three versions with the same word pool and take the median. Note whether errors happen on sight words or decodable words.
- Tips
- A step between lists and passages. Moves to the fluency templates once the student reads controlled sentences smoothly.
- Limits
- Controlled sentences are not natural text. The rate can't be compared with passage norms.

Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.
Met: Condition. Stated.
Met: Unit fits the behavior. Rate (per minute) fits this behavior.
Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.
Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.
Met: Method produces the metric. Timed probes gives rate (per minute) data.
Met: Review timeframe. Stated.
Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.
Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Sight Word Recognition.
Met: Level of support. Defined.
Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.
