Practice taught words at home with family

When to use this goal

For students whose sight word reading at school is not showing up at home, or whose families want a simple way to help. The family listens and marks a card; the school checks the data. Present levels decide the word set.

Baseline
Compare home sheets with a school probe of the same words in the same week. Agree with the family on what counts as correct (no sounding out, no help).
Tips
Keep the routine short and positive. Offer the sheet in the family's home language. Families who cannot do home practice are never penalized; school data stays the main measure.
Limits
Home data is collected by family members with different scoring habits; confirm with school probes.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, during a 5-minute home practice with a family member, given a word ring of 10 taught words and a simple mark sheet, the student will read each word on the ring aloud to the family member independently in at least 9 of 10 opportunities, across 2 consecutive weeks of returned sheets, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected weekly through a home sheet checked at school.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Opportunity (trial) recording gives opportunities data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Sight Word Recognition.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
