Choose a thesaurus word that fits
When to use this goal
For students who use a thesaurus but pick the longest or most unusual word, producing sentences that do not make sense. Fit depends on present levels showing the student knows many of the listed words.
- Baseline
- Build each entry with at least one option that changes the meaning and one with the wrong tone. Count a choice correct when the word fits and the reason is sensible.
- Tips
- Follows the connotation templates. The revision condition moves the skill into the student's own writing.
- Limits
- Tone judgments vary; accept reasoned choices. Explaining fit draws on oral or written language.

- Record up to 8 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
