Read sarcasm from words and situation

When to use this goal

For students who take sarcastic remarks literally and are confused or upset by them. Present levels decide fit. The main clue is a mismatch between the words and the situation, which every student can learn to use; tone is a second clue.

Baseline
Use 10 scenes, about two-thirds sarcastic. Score correct when the student identifies the type and the real meaning. Record the clue used.
Tips
Teach the student they can ask "Are you being sarcastic?"; it is a fair question. Choose scenes about school and friends at the student's age.
Limits
Sarcasm depends on culture and on knowing the speaker. The goal does not ask the student to use sarcasm.
