Infer what a character wants from clues
When to use this goal
For students who can name emotions but struggle to work out what someone wants or is planning. Present levels decide fit. Clues include actions, words, and the situation.
- Baseline
- Use 10 items at the student's listening or reading level. Score correct when the want is fitting and supported by clues.
- Tips
- Keep reading demands low by reading aloud or using video. Answers in any mode count.
- Limits
- This overlaps with reading inference; keep the focus on people's goals. Fictional characters are simpler than real peers.

- Score only items the student attempted unless the goal defines a fixed set of items. Use the same denominator every session.
- Percent = numerator ÷ denominator × 100. Round to one decimal place.
- Record the support actually provided, even if the goal is independent performance.
