Share a piece of news with the group at morning meeting
When to use this goal
For students who pass every time at share time, or who share something unrelated to the prompt. Base the choice on communication mode and SLP input. The share can be spoken, signed, shown with a photo, or played from a device.
- Baseline
- For one week, record each share turn: shared news, passed, shared something unrelated, or shared after a starter question. Ask the family to send a photo or a sentence about the weekend so the student has something concrete to share. Confirm with the SLP how the share should be supported on the device.
- Tips
- Each share turn is an opportunity (sample 5 per week). Score correct when the student shares one piece of news about themselves, in any mode, without an adult supplying the content. A family-prepared card counts as the chosen support, not as the adult supplying content. Passing is allowed sometimes; record it without comment. Peers should be taught to ask one friendly question.
- Limits
- Share time is short and some days the student has nothing to share; the sample of 5 per week handles this. Depends on family partnership for the card; if that is not possible, use a school event from the day before. Does not measure narrative quality (see narrative language goals).

- Record up to 5 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
