Settle a game rule argument with a fair fix

K-2, 3-5OpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For students who argue, quit, or change the rules when a game dispute comes up. Present levels, not grade, decide fit.

Baseline
Observe four game sessions. Record each rule argument, what the student did, and whether play continued.
Tips
Any fair fix counts, including one the student invents. Keeping playing means taking the next turn without restarting the argument.
Limits
Game-heavy recesses give more chances; plan structured games if the student usually plays alone. Winning and losing are a separate goal (see se-er-006).

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, during recess or classroom games with peers when players disagree about a rule or a call, the student will suggest a fair fix for the rule argument, such as checking the rules, redoing the turn, or using rock-paper-scissors, and keep playing after the decision independently in at least 4 of 5 opportunities, on 3 of 4 observed weeks, as measured by direct observation collected twice weekly during games.

Baseline: 1 of 5 opportunities.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Direct observation gives opportunities data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Conflict Resolution.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
