Compose a short written response on the device
When to use this goal
For students who use AAC for written classwork and who answer with one word when the assignment asks for sentences. Using the device's keyboard, word bank, or symbol-supported writing app, they build and share a short response. Base the choice on writing samples, not on speech.
- Baseline
- Score three recent written responses on the rubric. Note how the student composed (symbols, word bank, letters) and how long it took. Check that topic vocabulary is programmed before the task.
- Tips
- Score each sample on the three rows. Symbol-supported writing counts as writing. Grammar and spelling are not scored here unless a separate goal targets them. Work with the classroom teacher so the prompts are real assignments.
- Limits
- Rubric scores depend on prompt difficulty; keep prompts comparable. The rubric does not capture composing speed.
